The Department of Sociology offers a major and minor, as well as a range of courses that count towards the Social Science Core Requirements. Sociology courses address a wide array of important topics including the study of major social institutions, such as the family, religion, education, mass media, the workplace, and the justice system; the analysis of global social processes including culture, identity formation, war and peace, deviance and social control, aging, and social movements; and the investigation of inequalities, for example in the areas of race, class, and gender.
